You will need to install both Audacity AND the LAME plugin to complete this assignment. Read through this step-by-step pictorial to accomplish the install.
-this pictorial only explains the installation process for pc users.
LAME Plug-in Download page:

***Note: scroll further down on the page and until you see this:
Lame_Library_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_OSX.dmg -for Mac
Lame_v3.99.3_for_Windows.exe - for Windows

Download Audacity here. (this page has links for both MaC and pc users)
The LAME plugin is different for Mac and Windows users. Make sure you don't download the wrong one!!!!

TUTORIAL

Here is a tutorial on how to record your voice, find sound effects, add them to your voice recording, save the Audacity file, and export the MP3. You can view the video walk-through here.
If your think you installed LAME plugin properly but you still don't find Export as MP3, make sure you press the pause button before you save. In another word, your Record or Play button has to be "unpressed" in order to export.

I've also demonstrated quite a few functions in our online meeting, but there is another nice short tutorial HERE that your may want to watch.

Your Task

Create a podcast that is relevant to the grade level and subject area you plan to teach (if you're teaching) or your future profession and a relevant audience (if you're not teaching). It could be anything from an introduction to a class lesson, an interview, a story, instructions, safety tips, a marketing promo, etc....be creative!

1. Be grade-level, content area-specific. 20'
2. Include at least 1 imported sound (effect, theme song, etc.). 20'
3. Be approximately 2-4 minutes long. 10'
4. Be original, creative and interesting. 20'
5. Be reasonably good quality sound. 20'
6. Be submitted as an MP3 file (or shared link on a podcast site) to BB. 10'

Educational Podcasts examples

A few of you have emailed me about having troubles coming up with ideas about the podcast. You may want to browse through some existing educational podcasts in K12 settings.
iTunes K12
Educational podcasts for kids
9 Podcasts for Teachers and Kids

Please pay attention to the following:
You should save your Audacity project file (File - Save) so you can edit it, but the file you submit needs to be an MP3 (Export as MP3). You will not receive credit for submitting an Audacity (.AUP) file because these are not finalized files and do not include all data necessary to hear your podcast!

You will have to install the LAME plug-in for audacity to export your audio file as an mp3 format file. Go to File-> Export as MP3 to save your audio.
EDCT 2030.

You're encouraged to upload it to a podcast site, such as Podomatic and send a shared link on BB, but you need to make sure you saved the original MP3 file.

Blog Entry #5

This week I would like you write a blog to talk about your first impression of the ECOT videos. I understand this may be the first time you reviewed an online teaching video and you may want some criteria and parameters to help you make your judgments. Here is a site you may want to explore
iNACOL National Standards for Quality Online Teaching

* for privacy concerns, make sure you don't mention the word ECOT in your blog!!!
To summarize what is stated in the national standards, here are some standards that you may want to talk about in your blog writing:

• A – Teachers create learning experiences to enable student success
o Teachers create meaningful experiences
o Teachers encourage students to participate as global citizens
o Teachers create interactive learning experiences
• B – Teachers use a range of technologies
o Teachers use a variety of online tools
o Teachers apply troubleshooting skills
• C – Teachers encourage active learning, participation, collaboration
o Classroom is student-centered
o Interaction among students is present
o Teachers create a relationship of trust with students
o Teachers utilize higher-order thinking and group interaction
o Teachers respond appropriately to diverse backgrounds and learning needs
o Teachers use differentiated strategies
o Teachers ask questions to stimulate discussion
• D – Teachers have clear expectations, prompt responses, regular feedback
o Teachers use a variety of methods and tools to engage struggling students
o Teachers have high, clear expectations
• E – Teachers model, guide, and encourage legal, ethical, and safe behavior
• F- Teachers are cognizant of the diversity of students’ needs
o Teachers address different learning styles, accommodations needs
• G – Teachers create assessments that ensure validity and reliability
• H – Teachers develop and deliver assessments, projects, and assignments that align with standards-based learning goals
o Teachers use a variety of formative and summative assessments
• I –Teachers use data from assessments to modify content and to guide student learning
• J – Teachers interact with colleagues, parents, and others to support students’ success
• K– Teachers arrange media and content to help students and teachers transfer knowledge most effectively in the online environment

*You certainly don't have to address all of the above. You only need to pick a few standards that you think are worth noting in the context of ECOT videos. Talk about whether or not they address some of those. If yes, how well did they do it; if not, how they might be able to improve.
